What does #HotGirlSummer mean to you? Maybe it means striking a pose in your bikini. Maybe it means staying home on Friday and chilling out to Netflix — solo. Or maybe it means eating that ice cream because it tastes good.
Well, here at Sexual + Being, our #HotGirlSummer consisted of relearning about pleasure and figuring out what to do if you and your boo have different libidos.

2. DC Beings Ambassador Preston Mitchum chatted with some folks leading the conversations about what LGBTQ equality really (no, really) looks like in the District when we deconstruct it.

3. We showcased the love of a couple of Empowered Beings in the District on our Insta!
And here are three sex positive moments in August that we couldn’t get enough of:
1. Jonathan Van Ness rocked non-binary fashion at the VMAs.
Jonathan Van Ness, one of the new Fab Five on Netflix’s Queer Eye: More Than a Makeover, showed up at the Video Music Awards rocking a perfect non-binary outfit: a singlet, short shorts, high heels, and a lace cape, all in black. Van Ness recently came out as non-binary, is perhaps the most visible non-binary celebrity right now, and she looked fabulous at the VMAs. Yas JVN!!
2. An online Filipino community is encouraging sex positivity.
The Philippines is fairly conservative, with a tendency toward evangelical Christianity and all of the restrictions on sexuality that come with those beliefs. But a new online community, called the “alterverse,” is encouraging Filipino women to be more open about their sexuality and for Filipinos of all genders to talk about sex more openly. It’s a small step toward sex positivity, but isn’t that how all movements start?
3. A generic version of the abortion pill was released
Mifepristone is one of two pills required for a medication abortion and, up until now, it’s only been available from one company in the United States. But August saw the release of a generic version of mifepristone that will lower the price of the pill. While other barriers still remain in place for people to access this safe and effective health care, it’s a little bit of light amidst lots of depressing anti-choice news lately.
