Welcome to our first ever Monthly Rewind, a series dedicated to celebrating all the amazing, sex positive things that happened in our community, both online and off. We’ll also throw in our top three pop culture moments (because why not??). So what exactly happened this August?
DC continues its fight against HIV/AIDS
HAHSTA’s Deputy Director Michael Kharfen tweeted out this article from Washington Post, assuring that DC will not waver in its fight against HIV/AIDS.
D.C. is beating HIV/AIDS. There’s no excuse to drop the ball now. We have the data, strategies, community partners, research, and leadership to intensify our work to end the epidemic. @_DCHealth @dcbeings @SexIsDC #UequalsU #PrEP https://t.co/f35qzTLgqh

We were reminded that celibacy falls under sex positivity
Whether you are asexual, celibate by circumstance, or just not having regular sex, your sexual health still matters because by existing, you are a sexual being.

And we found the unique intersection between Pokémon and sex…
Alright, we’ll admit. We threw this one in here because we LOVED the conversations it started. Can you blame us?!

Here is our roundup of our top three favorite sex positive pop culture moments:
1) Christine Hallquist Wins Vermont Governer’s Primary
Sex positivity and gender identity are so closely linked that we couldn’t NOT include this. Hallquist is the first transgender person to be nominated for governorship by a major party. Trans identity = trans health = trans politics. Sex positivity is not always about open discourse around sex – sometimes, it’s about the unglamorous behind-the-scenes work to support and bolster sexual health.

Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas are Officially Engaged!
There has been a bout of celebrity whirlwind romances – Hailey Baldwin and Justin Beiber, Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson, to name a few. However, the one that sticks out in our mind is Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas. We wanted to highlight what great representation of an interracial relationship paying homage to both cultures.

Pose continues to push boundaries of racial and queer representation
In case you haven’t gotten a chance to check it out yet, Pose (on FX)… “looks at the juxtaposition of several segments of life & society in NY [through ballroom culture]”. They are the unsung heroes of queer representation on mainstream TV and we particularly love how unafraid they are of telling history as it was and not as they wished it had been.
