Y’all know what June is: Pride! And while we at Sexual + Being are loud and proud every day of the year, it’s always nice when warm weather rolls around and the community gets together to celebrate. This year, as the pandemic (hopefully) winds down, felt particularly special as the LGBTQIA+ emerged from a year of lockdown to dance, hug, and celebrate together.
Meanwhile, in the digital world, we decided to highlight the first four letters of the rainbow: lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender. We reached out to four people who identify, in some way, with each one and asked them to write about what that identity label means to them.
What we found was that identity isn’t so clear as a capital letter label in 2021. From a queer woman who primarily (but not solely) loves women to three gay Black men in the DMV to a bisexual woman married to a man to a man of trans experience, our sexual and gender identities continue to be important, nuanced, and profound. Give them a read, then check out our top three moments on social.
