In March 2021, we focused on women. Like usual, right? But this March — and the preceding year — was anything but normal. We’re officially one year into a pandemic the likes of which none of us alive has ever seen before and the strain is really showing at all of our seams. On that theme, we had a mom talk about how women are stretched so thin right now. We also looked at the way Covid-19 is affecting some peoples’ sexual health and went deep on what happened when one woman almost got expelled from grad school for being sex positive online.
Here’s a little teaser from the Covid piece to get you hooked:
According to several studies that came out around the same time, long-term COVID patients — dubbed “COVID-19 Long-Haulers” by the media – were experiencing a variety of ailments. While some, like the dreaded COVID “brain fog” and chronic fatigue were expected, surprise issues began cropping up. People with vaginas started experiencing irregular periods, while folks with penises had to contend with newfound erectile dysfunction.
Beyond the physical implications of these issues, there is mental anguish associated with your body feeling broken in a way you don’t know how to fix.

March Sex Positive Moment
The deadly shootings in Atlanta of eight people, six of whom were women of Asian descent, at massage parlors were based on misogyny, racism, and sex negativity. And while the deaths of these women can never be “paid” for, the surge in donations to Asian-American sex worker organizations in the wake of the shootings suggests that Americans might finally be seeing sex workers as more than plot lines or the butt of a joke. Maybe perspectives are shifting enough that these kinds of shootings will no longer happen? Some day? It feels so far away right now, but change happens incrementally and we’re choosing to take the fact that people are putting money where their mouths are as a good sign.
