Summer time — even in COVID-time — is the time to get out and get some sun! But it’s also a time that’s full of media messaging about what bodies “should” and “shouldn’t” look like. And this year, for many of us, months of staying home in order to protect our communities has led to changes in our bodies. So to counteract the “bikini body” narrative, we decided to highlight different perspectives around loving the body you live in.
We covered sex- and body-positive Instagram influencers, what it’s like to struggle with an eating disorder and live with a disability, and we welcomed back sex positive vlogger Nichelle Spenner, who talked about being unapologetically fat and unapologetically having sex. We also heard from a health care worker in Texas who talked about what happened when abortion care in their state was considered “non-essential.”
